Expert opinion
Fager leather bits are very useful for horses that are sensitive to most bits, don't like metal bits and whose teeth can wear down. Leather has the ability to adapt to the contour of the horse's mouth, making the bit unique for that particular horse. Thanks to the perfect suppleness and taste of leather, horses tend to feel very comfortable and relaxed in leather bits. The 3-way bit is a lowering bit where you can hang the reins in a fixed way on the bottom ring or with rings on the main ring and the bottom ring. This bit has a weak action because its small rings are inside the main ring, so it has little leverage. Combination of 3 bits in one: lateral framing, leverage effect and lifting effect. The 3-way bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.

Leather: Leather is a natural material that is very pleasant for the horse and stimulates chewing and salivation. It avoids the cold contact of certain metal bits. The production of saliva softens the leather and makes it more pleasant for the horse. The leather should be oiled approximately every 5 uses to maintain its suppleness. Fager leather bits are handmade to offer the best possible quality. The leather is hand-stitched around a nylon-covered thread. Fagers leather is vegetable tanned; no harmful chemicals or artificial colours are used. The horse's salivation softens the bit and makes it even more comfortable. The temperature of the bit adapts to that of the horse's mouth. This bit is particularly pleasant for horses in cold weather, as the bit maintains a warm temperature, unlike metals which are cold.
If the bit gets dry, we recommend soaking it in food-grade paraffin oil.
Make sure that the stitching points to the outside of the mouth and not against the mouthcorners.
Warning: The leather material is not suitable for horses that chew a lot on the bit. The bit is therefore not covered by warranty or right of complaint if the damage has occurred due to the horse biting the bit. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
